Interview with The Living End
(In Their Own Words)

Boston Live (BL): Who are the members of The Living End?

The Living End (TLE): Chris Cheney - Vocals/Guitar, Scott
Owen- Double Bass, Andy Strachan- Drums.

(BL): How did you come together?

(TLE): The Band was formed in about 1995 when Chris and Scott went to school together. Andy joined about 5 years ago. We started out playing a lot of 50's covers as well as our own tunes.

(BL): Where did the name The Living End come from?

(TLE): The name comes from the old 1950's rock 'n' roll film called Rock Around the Clock. The final credits say "the end" followed by "the living end". We just thought it was a cool name for a band because it was very neutral and it could be any kind of music.

(BL): What city do you claim as your hometown?

(TLE): Melbourne, born and bred.

(BL): How do you feel playing in Boston?

(TLE): We love playing Boston for a few reasons. We've played there a lot and have a lot of friends there. We've done a bunch of shows/tours with The Dropkicks and Bosstones and some of our most memorable US shows have been in Boston.

(BL): What's your favorite venue to play in and outside of Boston? Why?

(TLE): I think Galaxies is that, right? I am hopeless with venue names but we do love it there I promise.

(BL): Where have you toured in the U.S. and elsewhere?

(TLE): We have toured pretty much right across the states. We've also been to Europe and Japan several times.

(BL): Who are the largest names you have performed with?

(TLE): We've done tours with Green Day, AC/DC, No Doubt, Blink 182 and we supported the Rolling Stones also.

(BL): What was the most memorable show you played? Why?

(TLE): It's hard to pick one show, but we played a great show today in Pittsburg that I think will be memorable for some time. It was just a rockin' gig with a real enthusiastic audience.

(BL): What message are you trying to get across to your audience?

(TLE): I think if there is a message then its just be true to yourself and keep your eyes and ears open to new music and to what's happening in this mad world we occupy.

(BL): Who do you consider to be your influences?

(TLE): It's cheesy to say but we are influenced by pretty much everything except electronic music. Our primary band influences would be AC/DC, The Clash and the Stray Cats but it definitely goes further than that.

(BL): Who produced your latest album? Where was it done?

(TLE): Nick Launay who also produced Roll On and we recorded in Byron Bay which is in New South Wales, Australia.

(BL): What, if any, is the message behind your latest album?

(TLE): No message . We just wanted to have the best songs we've ever written and I think we achieved that.

(BL): Who is your current record label and management?

(TLE): Our current label is Adeline and our management is Crucial Music.

(BL): Where have you played before this upcoming Boston show? Where are you playing afterwards?

(TLE): We have been on the Warped Tour for about a month. We are doing a bunch of our own headline shows across the states till the end of August.

(BL): What do you want our Boston Live readers to know about you?

(TLE): We want them to know that our shows are a happening and to miss it would be silly! Get off your butt and come on down!
